Developing Reading Comprehension Skills

Read the following passage:

Welcome to the workshop on Reading Comprehension (RC) skills. This is a collaborative effort between CBSE and CENTA to support teachers from CBSE schools to build RC skills in students preparing for PISA-2022 and Board examinations.

Reading Comprehension is the ability to process text, understand its meaning, and integrate with prior knowledge; for example, reading about the Quit India movement and comparing how it was different from the First War of Independence. RC skills lead to the synthesis of information and the prediction of outcomes based on situations.

Based on responses from teachers, CBSE chose this topic. CBSE has invited teachers from Kendriya Vidyalayas, Navodaya Vidyalayas, and Chandigarh schools whose students are taking PISA. Teachers from all other CBSE schools are also welcome since the topic cuts across all learning. Since the first CBSE-CENTA workshop, there has been a 51% increase in the number of teachers participating. Currently, 3000+ CBSE teachers are also leveraging learning resources and MCQ quizzes post these workshops.

In today’s workshop, teachers will not only engage in an interactive learning session but also arm themselves with key strategies to implement in their classrooms.
